When I first got my 75 gallon my intentions for it were one green severum and one GT. However, when I researched I found that they can't co-exist without the GT killing the severum eventually. I went with the sev because then I could at least have other fish in the tank, but was it possible? I'm just curious, because if the opportunity comes up again and it probably will, is it possible? Also are GTs as much as a terror as everyone labels them?

You need a bigger tank if you want to keep both of them. Atleast 125g minimum. And you should buy both of them together and both should be at fry stage similar in size. And put them together and grow them up. This way GT will probably accept the green severum as their tank mate since they have been together since they were young. But keep an eye on them. Good luck to ya.

All you can do is try it and see, but I don't think it'll be pretty. A GT can shred a Sev and at some point he'll claim the tank. The only fish that could work with a GT in a 75 gallon is a mate.

Here's what I think on keeping these types of cichlids. In summary it says the best cichlid companion for a Severum is another Sev, a mate.

I have read that more than a couple times. More than once I have spent time seriously thinking about switching to african, they just seem so complicated. You can have a mediocre tank that has some color etc...but it is nothing compared to what you could have if you had some knowledge in it. The lfs around here have practically no selection when it comes to africans...

pretty much everybody hit the nail on the head. your answer is a simple no. I have kept both african and new worlds and will say that nothing beats a new world when it comes to personality. africans have color and thats about it.
