I've got a planted 75gallon aquarium, with 6 angels, 8 platys and 3 clown loaches. Would rams be okay in this setup? If so, how many could I have?

I want to add more color and interest to the tank, but the only thing that I really like is cichlids. If I ever rehome the platys, I will probably get discus, but would rams be okay for now?

Rams are fine with the fish you have. But IMO you are already stocked up. I am a firm believer that you should not crowd your tank. If you angels are not full grown yet they will be soon enough. I use to breed angels on a large scale and know how big they do get when full grown. Your six you already have in your tank is your limit. If you want the rams you will have to do water changes more often and watch your readings as well.

As for the Discus, this is my new love. Although I only have one this is the reason for it.

My tank I have now since I don't breed anymore is my 25 gal community tank. One adult Discus needs to have 10 gal of water per adult Discus. So I would be able to have no more than 2 discus in my tank. The reason I only have one is that I no longer have the time to devote to breeding and secondly is that two disucs or angels tend to fight amongst one another.

Discus should be kept as a single with other fish or in a group of 5 or more. So if you had nothing else in your 75 gal I would put a school of 7 and no more than that in your tank. With the addition of a school of cardinal tetras or rummy nose tetras, few cory cats and a bristlenose and lots of live plants your tank would be complete.

So with that I would recommend that you treat your 6 angels the same way and please don't add any discus to that already existing tank. Hope this helps a bit.

Good Luck....bugsy :)

you cnat be serious bugsy... that tank is no where near fully stocked

sorry but i hate when people say that tanks are stocked up when they arent even close  i have to disagree..

there is room for 2 rams defintaly

Hey that is fine, some people like to cram in as many fish as they can in their tanks, that is their right. I was just stating what I would do but hey, no one goes by what others recommend and "sometimes" they learn the hard way.

No hard feelings fufanu360..... :p This was just my opinion.

Have a great day....... :kana:
