Are My Plants Ok?

I have had some Java fern in my tank for some time now, but over the last month or so the leaf have developed some brown patches on them.

I'm not worried about the gs algae, but the brown patches is concerning me. The brownest goes through the leaf to the underside. Is it some thing to worry about?

I also have 5 Cryptocoryne Wendii, which has been in my tank for a few weeks now. A few leafs melted as I understand they would, but the new leafs are turning brown. Not only that but the roots are growing straight up out of the substrate(which is plain sand). I not sure what's happening with them, is there anything I can do?

Any help would be appreciated!

It's obviosuly not algae. It looks like some sort of disease or toxic reaction. I doubt it will be a deficiency as Java fern is undemanding.

Another member experienced nematodes on his fern. I wonder if it is similar?

Your crypts may be just settling in. They are very sensitive to any changes in their environment and will often shed leaves before recovering, as you probably know. I suspect the plain sand may not be helping though. Cryptocoryne sp. require a nutrient-rich substrate to do well.

At the moment I'll just keep pruning the bad leafs out, I'm dosing fert and trace so time will tell.
As for the Cryptocoryne, I have some root fert tabs that should help then. Again time will tell if it likes my tank.
