I bought some plants offline and have been in my tank for just over 24 hours, they seemed ok when they arrived but now I've noticed the leaves are getting brown and yellow patches on them. I have given them plenty of light and the tank still has ammonia from half way through a fish-less cycle but there aren't any fish to provide any CO2, could they being dying due to a lack of carbon dioxide?

they'll be fine.
just remove decaying leaves every once in a while so they don't contribute to the bad things in your water.

Many plants are grown commercially emersed. That means that only the roots and some of the stem are under water. The air leaves that result will often die back on a new plant to be replaced by underwater leaves. It is especially troublesome with Cryptocoryne genus which undergoes what is called crypt melt. All of the leaves of a crypt will fall off quite soon after planting but if you are patient, the leaves will grow back in from the seemingly dead root. It looks to me like you have an echinodorus so it won't act like a crypt but a few leaves lost is no real concern.

I spoke to a person today and I forgot to trim the roots. My bad. I'll see if that helps and post the result. Thanks everyone
