I got these today and they are in my emergency tank for quarantine purposes. There are 3 females and two males (as you can see).

Are the females pregnant?

How far along?

Should I leave them in the emergency tank, or use a floating breeding net ?

well congrats first of all. whats you need to do is get them in a birthing tank or another tank with plants and within a week or under u will have fry they look heavly pregnant .when the do give birth i find putting fry in a tank of there own they live longer than in a birthing trap , feed the babys crushed up flake food or better micro worms or liquifry they love them and give them what they need to grow please put pics on when they have them they look in good health. they will also try to hide before they drop good luck with them .

they are very much ready to drop.

If you place them in a breeding trap, add a tiny bit of food and out the lights to minimize stress and dont leave them in there for longer than 48 hours if they dont drop.

ty 5steady ive shown her a pic of my guppy that u helped me out with that other person says 2-4 weeks yeh right just looking at them you know there ready to drop lol

Why isnt the tank that they are in (my spare hosp tank) suitable? It has cabomba in. Is it cos of the males? I can put the males in one of my community tanks if thats the case. My other quarantine tank will be empty soon though ... if they can hang on a few more days! Otherwise I will have to go out and buy another tank. (Ive got 5 already and husband groans everytime I get another!). How big should it be? I have a 21 litre with just 3 white clouds in, I could move them out I suppose.

Can you describe a birthing tank please if its a special tank. I have a net breeder but I have never used it so dont really know what to do. Never had any fry before. (Panics!)

dont move the females cuz theyll get stressed and wont giv birth, move the males to a community tank. when the fish giv birth, move the fry 2 to the other quarintine tank 2 grow. the squarer the guppies belly, the closer it is to giving birth. hope that helps! -heart  , ally86ozzy

If they are using a trap and follow the guidlines i gave them, they will be fine, read my piined thread on how to know when your fish is ready to drop.

One female was dead this morning, found her on the filter. I moved the males and the not so pregnant female to another tank and left the heavily pregnant female in the hospital tank alone. I am keeping an eye on her. Thing is, I have gravel in that tank and I dont like to disturb her to take it out. I dont want HUGE numbers of fry, but I would like a few as this is my first fish pregnancy. I am prepared to get an extra tank though.

I have a packet of Tetra delica brine shrimp. Are these suitable for the fry or is it the live hatched ones you give them? Is there anything you can give fry that you dont have to mess about hatching yourself?

your males look like one of mine how cool

Look what popped out this morning:

I think there are about 10. I have separated them from the parents. A kind member of my local aquatic society brought me a spare tank and a breeding trap, but it was too late for the trap!

I have fed them crushed flake so far. The brine shrimp in a gel they seem to ignore and it makes the water cloudy.

Crushed flake is fine for a typical livebearer fry. The Tetra brine shrimp looks like its some kind of flake or pellet food with enough brine shrimp in it so they don't get in trouble calling it that. Baby brine shrimp are very small and very alive when you feed them. They are not much bigger than crushed flake food.

way to go told you its wont be long there so cute congrats nanna lol give them crushed flakes or liquifry or micro worm

Thank you. They seem to ignore the crushed flakes, but they like small amounts of crumbled hard boiled egg yolk. I dont want to give them too much of the latter though as it will foul the water so I am persisting with the crushed flakes. I havent had chance to get to the shops.

A funny thing happened to me today though. I was staring at one of my other tanks that has nothing to do with the guppies and I saw movement in the java moss - I found a lone orange platy fry with a black tail. Soo cute! I saw him a few more times but he was going really deep into the java moss, there was no way I could take him out and put him with the other fry. So Im just keeping my fingers crossed!

Its fertility week at our house! I know 2 girls who are about to give birth to real babies too. Something in the water round here obviously.
