Happy New Year all,

Yesterday I bought 3 male guppies (don't want little babies). One of them seems to prefer hiding a lot more than the other 2 who are very active. He does come out when he wants to and joins in and is feeding properly but he seems to tire soon after his "mad half hour" and then tends to keep to the bottom of the tank or in between the plants.

could the others be bullying him??

Yes, it is very possible the others are bullying him. It's recommended to always get at least 5 males if you want all males to spread out aggression. With 3, 2 can gang up on one and make his life miserable. I'd get a few more males, and see what happens. :) Lots of decorations and plants will also be helpful. What size tank do you have?

thanks for your comments. its only a 34l tank as just starting out - how many fish would be best, i don't want to over crowd it.

thanks again.

That's almost 9 gallons. I'd say you could get away with adding a few more males. 2 probably. Just plant it up, and decorate it with lots of hiding places, and you should be fine. :)
