I am finding a LOT of conflicting information on festivum cichlids. I have a mated pair, I'm not 100% sure which specific species they are, I will try to get a few clear pics and maybe someone here can tell me. They are beautiful fish and have colored up nicely in the week or so I've had them. They are actively swimming all around their tank exploring and almost always are right by each others side, but they are extremely shy whenever someone approaches the tank, they stripe up and hide if I get within a few feet.
So, here are a few questions hopefully someone can answer as I want to try to keep these fish less scared and stressed.

Are they gregarious? Would adding a few more help them relax?

If so, how many? I can't even get a straight answer on how large these fish grow, some sites say 4" while others say up to 8". I don't want to overstock the tank.

Once paired are they more aggressive all the time or only while spawning? I wouldn't want any others I add getting beat up. I do have an empty 30 gal. just in case they spawn and need to be seperated.

Thanks in advance for any input, finding so much conflicting info online is frustrating.

THey are when they're young, as they age they pair up and don't mind so much. I'm sure they'll gain more confidence soon and be out more. :)

Haha I guess I just needed to be more patient, when I got home from work they both greeted me at the front glass of the tank :)
