Are Common Stones Ok For Tropical Aquarium?

My son and I found some interesting stones in our local woods. They are very hard, dense (not crumbly), dark stones. I have scrubbed them in water with a brush, and boiled them for 30 mins. Do you think they're safe to add to my aquarium? Any advice appreociated!
