My stocking in my 190L Trigon was

10 Neon Tetras
10 Black Neon Tetras
8 Silvertip Tetras
14 Glowlight Tetras
4 Moonight Gourami
3 Khuli Loachs

Its now

6 Neons
5 Black Neons
8 Silvertips
14 Glowlights
4 Moonlight gourami
3 Khulis.

for the past week ive been fishing out a dead tetra. I did a 75% water change yesterday thinking it was water conditions but alas, another dead tetra.

Its weird as the other tetras seem fine, its just the "neon branded" ones. Could the gourami be eating them and its just coincidence they are just eating the neon ones?

I'll do another water test now, just want peoples initial thoughts.

i had 10 neons initially, now down to 6. Since getting to 6 have been there for months. When i had 10 they used to fight quite often so i put it down to squabbles and stress.

i have had 2 penguin tetras for a long time now, even in just a pair they are still ok.

There's lots of in-breeding with neons so they are weaker genetically in general. Also they need acidic condition.

From my experience Neons are the weakest fish out of most common species to the point where its almost pointless stocking them. We lose loads at work despite acclimatising them for hours and having ammonia nitrite and nitrate all at 0.

Edit: That said, Black neons tend to be quite hardy.

PH - 7.7
Ammonia - 0
Nitrate - 0.0
Nitrite - 0.1
GH - 180

must add,

The black neons were from P@H, and to be honest their tanks aren't overly well looked after, they were the first to go and then the blue neons.

I may just have to buy some cardinals :D

Aren't Cardinals even more susceptible to stress than Neons though?

Although Cardinals are far better looking (IMO) I wouldn't dare have them in my tank; poor buggers would be dying on me within the week!

Cardinals are hardier than Neons, theres no doubt about it. IME Cards don't need a mature tank either.
