Going to change the tubes in my Juwel tank from the ones which were supplied, looking at the arcadia ones but not sure whether to put in 1 x original tropical and 1 x freshwater lamp or to put 2 x freshwater lamps in, any advice appreciated. I'm also thinking of adding an extra light just 1 x 25w tube to increase the amount of light but not sure yet, if I was to do this what lamp would you recommend.

Thanks,

Keith

The arcadia freshwater is 7500k and has a slight green hue from it, im not familar with the origional tropical, another good choice is the interpet 6500k daylight tube, this gives a very nice white light and is very natural looking.

original tropical is an old tube, packaging says ideal spectrum for plant growth - it isn't.

personally i have used an arcadia fresh water (great tube) and a dennerle special plant (4000K), gives a nice mix of colour. the dennerle has a red hue to it. horrible on its own but mixes well with the green in the FW

I had the same sort of problem as yourself, i have a jewel rio 180, in my eyes it depends what you have got in your tank, if you have plants that only need low light then go for 1 of each tube, if you have plants that need medium light then you will need to get 2 freshwater tubes (7500k), i went for 2x freshwater tubes in mine, i am also thinking about getting another tube if i decide to get 1 it will be the original tube, the original tube is good for showing off the colours of your fish.

i was told by my LFS that jewal have just made a new light set up so that you can put 4 tubes in a rio 180, it is 2x the light units that comes as standard with the rio 180 but you have to buy a new set of tank flaps, now that sounds interesting to me...
