I started my fishless cycle two days ago.

I am using Tetra AquaSafe as my chlorine remover but I have just read on a website that it removes ammonia :( Is anybody able to confirm/deny this whilst I wait for an answer from Tetra themselves?

I'm also using BacterLife to feed the bacteria and I have just read on another website that it is really for topping up the bacteria weekly, rather than using to mature the filter! And it does say on the bottle that it is suitable for use when high ammonia readings have been taken (implying to me that it reduces them!)

Both products were recommended by the person in my lfs (he knew I was starting a new tank).

I don't have an ammonia test kit. I'm measuring zero nitrites, but after two days I wouldn't expect to anyway.

So I'm wondering whether to carry on as I have been, or whether I am going nowhere with these products and should change now to avoid further delays in the cycling process.

Thanks...

I am looking at my aquasafe bottle right now and it states, "Aquasafe will not remove ammonia from uncycled, overstocked, or under-filtered aquarium"

definitely doesn't say it my bottle! maybe they've changed the label, I bought mine last Sunday. Maybe I shall stick with it but get another source of ammonia and see how I get on.

cheers.

On the back of the bottle, its broken down to 3 sections!

The very last sentence in the first section.

Yellow bottle correct?

TetraAqua

Aquasafe "Makes tap water safe for fish"

yellow bottle, as shown here here

definitely doesn't say it on the back of mine! Back of my bottle has three paragraphs, followed by four bullet points, followed by 'Directions for use'.

Mine is a "limited Edition Free Measuring Cap", so whether that makes a difference and the label was changed too, who knows. But even so, I doubt the product has changed so I will stick with it for the time being.
