Hi guys, I decided to start a journal as I'm in the process of re-doing my 29 gallon tank.

Lets start off with how the tank was, with awful gravel, fake plants, and horrible stocking. Forgive me for not taking pictures every step of the way but I intend to from now on!

-I plan on this being a very low-tech tank.
-It has an aquaclear 50 filter on it now.
-I plan on getting a new light as it still has the stock light on it.
-I want a few more small pieces of wood sticking up where the other cluster of wood is.
-I'm ordering some java fern soon to attach to the wood.

Current plants:
Amazon Swords
Cyperus helferi(I think)
Crypts (I think)
Their are a few that I don't know. I always just bought whatever plants I liked and never really looked at the names so correct me if I'm wrong!

Current stocking:
x14 Gold Barbs
x7 Emerald Cories
x1 Male Opaline Gourami

I was not aware that the gold barbs get so big. Their just babys now.

Final stocking:
x5 Gold Barbs (the rest will go into my 75 gallon tank)
x5 Cherry Barbs
x7 Emerald cories
x1 Opaline Gourami

Here are some current pictures. You can probably in-vision what I'm going for, higher on one side with wood and plants sloping down to an open area.

After I added some amazon swords and more Cyperus helferi, I don't know if I like where I put it. I removed the background because there is a mirror behind it and I think I like it. Once I'm sure the aquaclear has enough mature media I will be sliding it to the left so it will be behind plants.

This is one of the unknown plants:

I added flourite black sand for plants and it left a dust all over everthing! You can kind of see it in the pictures. I try to wave/suck the dust off when I'm doing water changes but it just settles back  Any ideas on how to get rid of it? Feel free to give suggestions and opinions on anything :) Thanks for reading!

Wow, big improvement, loving the gold barbs too. :good:

Thanks! :) it's still pretty rough around the edges and I'm thinking I may need to look into getting some co2 set up to achieve what I'm after.
