Thought you guys might be interested in looking at my crown tail's tank. It's a converted coffee pot, cleaned safely, with holes cut for oxygen and for feeding. The plant is a simply a bamboo that can handle constant submersion. If any one else has some interesting aquariums I'd love to see them.

Lovely fish, but I have to ask - why do you only have the water filled up a little bit? If there's a lid, why not the full way filled? It definitely doesn't look like enough room for the little guy in there, especially with that small amount of water..

Maybe he was going for the most surface area ? Though, if I were you I'd get him a proper bowl/tank, you could keep the bamboo, a coffee pot just seems a little trashy....haha ;)

the bowls only half way becuase I ran out of the right water half way and didn't have any that was the proper temperature on hand. I'm planning on putting more in there.

OK, I know I've had a drink tonight, but am I seeing this right... you keep your beautiful, beloved fish in a 'converted' coffee pot?! :/
Not only does it look cosmetically crap, but it's way too small and he has a great big bamboo stick slap bang in the middle of his tiny swimming space.

(I read this back and I'm being mean, but it's my birthday so I'm allowed - betta police and all that).

Change that flipping coffee pot, it's awful, on so many levels!.

Lovely Boy. And nice idea, despite others' rude comments. Your betta would happily enjoy more living space, but I am sure with lots of love and good food, he is very happy where he is. Has it occured to any of you that this person might have feelings? And that her fish might (maybe) get stressed out in larger living quarters?
Just maybe...
And she (he?) Seems to care quite a bit about their betta, and planned all this. I am sure this is a lot better than someone who neglects their betta, even if it has larger area to swim. You should Applaud him/her for that. This is not even close to as bad as people who keep their bettas in cups.
I just think people should be a bit more polite, and SUGGEST she get a bigger tank.

Soon people will be afraid to post pictures of their fish. because people will probably criticise them, and have no nice comments. And always accompany a bad comment with a very nice and good one, so it doesn't just look like you came here to abuse people.
Just had to vent there. I probably sounded rude myself.
BAck to the point. Very nice fish!

nice initial idea but i think there is a slight lack of understanding on the care of bettas, i dont doubt that there is lack of love but the extra little bits make a much healthier lifestyle for the betta.
They need stimulation due to their level of intelligence and the bamboo doesnt provide this what so ever, its purely there b/c you think it looks, pretty or cool, which ever way you class it. They need places to hide, sleep, explore etc.....
The comment about the water level isnt justified, if you see the top of the bowl you will notice that the bamboo is vertical which suggests that its being held into place by the lid or whatever is on there, this will restrict the flow of oxygen to the water surface, having a good air flow is far more important so i would reccommend removing the lid completely but keeping the water level at the same hieght to allow him to have more surface area to breath from, adding more water will only reduce the water surface area
The style of the bowl is fine but it could be bigger so that you can add things, something thing a larger rim would be best so that you can easily add things to the tank, the water changes in this small item must be very frequent as you do not have a filter.
Just buying a betta and plonking it in a glass item with some water isnt the correct way of creating a suitable environment for these lovely little fish, a step back to consider the bettas needs before your own would be an idea as you can still make any tank look trendy and cool with a bit more imagination with things that will keep him stimulated, a main rule of bettas is no matter how clean your water is the lack of stimulation will cause stress evenually which will reduce the bettas immune system and you'll find yourself posting threads on how to compact problems.

This is the set up to my boy's tank. Not very interesting but... It'll work until I can get something bigger going...

I very much agree with this.

He is a very beautifal fish and it is a very clever idea but i do feel the space is a little too small for him, shame tho coz sommin like that on a larger scale could look pretty fab (with some added hidey holes of course)

Monica sometimes it's worth saying it like it is and not sitting on the fence, a coffee pot is not innovative, stylish or a good size for a fish. Daz said it better than me, because I was a bit drunk, but I maintain how shocked I am that someone finds it ok to keep their fish in a coffee pot.. If I put a pic up of my fish in a pint glass, would that be ok because I change his water 3 times a day? It IS about water quality, but really it's also about many more things than that. So whilst I apologise for my famous lack of tact, I can't apologise for the way I feel about this poor creature living in a teapot.

I got to agree with you Mel.... :good:

Mel your tact never fails to put a smile on my face, lova ya for it girl.

This forum is here for people to give their oppinions and advice, he did ask what we thought so he has to expect to be told, be it blunt, long winded whatever, so come on guys chill a little here.

C'mon big hugs now

I gotta agree with those telling you that you need to get a larger tank bowl, whatever for your lil fella.
Although I wouldn't have a problem if it looked like a coffee pot (different strokes for different folks afterall).... your betta should have more space and more things in his environment to stimulate him.

Bettas are such curious little buggers and need more than just a single bamboo shoot to look upon... ya know?
