Changed Complete water of the 85lt aquarium month back, now water is smelling foul. What to do?Cleaned filter yesterday.Water Temp is around 28 degree celcius.Have Gold,Carps & Dollar fish in there. Please advise here.

When was the last time you changed the water?

You should be changing it weekly.

Be advised that goldfish and carps poop a lot that's why they're more suited for an outdoor pond. They contribute a lot of ammonia into the water. They also require cooler water or else they become too slimy and thus smell more fishy than usual.

I feel this must be the reason for smell Higher Temp & Karps & gold there.I have increased the Temp cause my Oranda Gold is having Cotton wool on its Head.

Done Complete water Change a month back & now thinking of part water change as I'm worried water change causes illness in my fish.

Though quite adaptable, some goldfish morphs are actually susceptible to external fungal infection if kept in a warm weather for too long

Smelly water can be caused by bad nitrogene cycle in your tank. In very very short terms the nitrogene cycle means that feces from fish, food leftovers are degraded to nitrate that is used by the plants to build up new leaves among other things, which in turn should be eaten by the fish, and the fish feces and dead fish will return in the circle.

The whole nitrogen cycle can't be achived in an tank, but only partly so you have to change water and removed dead material such as leaves.

I'f you have good a good bio filter, the water shouldn't smell, though it always have an "natural odéur". To start the biofiltration a bio starter can be added to the filter.

Furthermore you can put active carbon in your filter to get clean and non-smelling water.

Regards

A water change will not cause illness in your fish unless there is a big difference in the temperature and chemical composition of the water, what will cause illness is the fact that your 85ltr tank has too many fish, exactly how many carp and goldfish do you have in there? they are big fish when fully grown and produce a lot of waste, they are also not compatible with the silver dollars which are tropical fish, 28 degrees is on the high side for the goldies and carp, your fish are getting ill because they are stressed due to the water quality and poor living conditions, you should be changing the water far more than once a month around once a week is good but I would also look into rehoming some of the fish.

ONCE A MONTH IS NOT OFTEN ENOUGH FOR WATER CHANGES, DO THEM ONCE A WEEK INSTEAD.   THE REASON YOUR AQUARIUM SMELLS AND YOUR FISH ARE SICK, IS BECAUSE THE WATER IS FOULED,  WATER CHANGES ARE GOLD!

Get a good gravel/syphon vacuum and give that gravel a thorough going over too (again a weekly task)  :)

Also none of your fish are really suited for only 85 litres. Possibly a single goldfish.

i'm going to start at the beggining and work my way through, this may take me a while so i'm sorry if someone else replies before i'm finished and it looks like i ignored your post.

i have read three of your posts now and think i understand your situation. from what i can make out you have a betta in a basin and a 3x1x1ft tank with (at least) 2 goldfish (oranda), a red tailed shark and presumably silver dollars. you set up the original tank, stocked it, did not preform regular maintenance such as water changes and substrate cleaning, then added more fish. the water changes you have done have been a long time between and of 100%. does this sound about right to you?

i also have to ask what you have in the bottom of the tank, is it sand or gravel or  nothing? this could be important later on.

i know nothing about your tropical fish i.e. shark, dollars and betta. other people will have to properly advise on this but i'll give it my best.

the first thing you have to do is buy probably 2 more tanks, i say probably as i don't think the betta can be kept with the shark and dollars.
you will need a tank for the betta on it's own i think 5-10 is the recommended size, so a 2x1x1ft would be more than ample. it would need a filter, heater and possibly an air pump. there are plenty of betta fans on here and if you listen to them they will tell you everything you need to know.
the other tank will be to split your goldfish from your shark and dollars. the goldfish are cold water fish whereas your shark and dollars are tropical. they need different temperatures.
the goldfish i assume are still quite small so the 3x1x1 would do them for a while but they will need a much bigger tank in time. as for the shark and dollars i really do not know what size of tank they will need.
in the goldfish tank you will need a filter and air pump. in the shark/dollar tank you will need filter, heater and possibly an air pump.
this would sort out your stocking.

as for your water problems, a lot of that revolves around the nitrogen cycle, i will not go into that just now as i am aware of a slight language barrier. basically the water in your tank builds up different toxins to your fish, we can not see these toxins, so the water still looks fine and some fish can survive through this. over a longer period of time the toxins keep building and if your fish survive through this they become acostomed to it.
to keep the tank water healthy most people do weekly water changes of around 20%, this removes the built up toxins and keeps the level of them low.
if however you do not do regular water changes and the toxins build up your tank will have what is called old tank syndrome in this case if you do a large 100% water change you will shock your fish as the water quality is so different. this may be why it looks like water changes are bad for your fish and is also more than likely why your tank smells.
please keep in mind when doing water changes that you make sure the water is dechlorinated and tempature matched.

as for your goldfish. as i said before it could be wen growth, fungus and fin rot and now knowing their tank mates also fin nipping. going on the information i have surmised above i will suggest that it has probably been a case of fin nipping that has become infected to cause fungus and fin rot. goldfish should not (in my opinion) be kept at a tempature above 21C turning the temp up to 28c will not solve any of these problems.

hopefully their will be more people along to help out with the fish that i do not know about :)

I have removed Red tail sharks from my tank.My tank size is 3ftX1ftX1ft with filter, air pump & heater. As advised by pet shop I increasded the Temp to 28 degree as it is cold here(Outside).I did that part water change with siphon tube removing bit of debris at the bottom of the gravel.
May be I do not know best about Gold Fish but will learn from all you friends how to keep them healthy.
Only problem to my Oranda Gold here is Bit of White on their head.I was not using any of the heater till that time but when I found the white fungus on their head I placed/started the heater. These Gold were added recently into my tank.
I was changing part water weekly but stopped to do so after my fish started to die or show problem after every water change. So last month I cleaned & changed all the water completely.

sounds as if you are doing everything right then apart from the heater. if it is only a small bit of white on it's head then it is most likely wen growth, again a temp of 28 will not make any difference or do any good here (i would advise that you remove the heater) all you can do is give it more protien in it's diet to up it's red blood cell count.

Will dried worms will do for the diet of protiens or suggest any other. As here it is difficult to get special food.

Does anything more need to be done.Milky karps are there too
