Hey all :D

I tried out a couple of ready made temperature controllers for my tanks, and TBH, they are crap.

So, I made a couple instead using proper control instruments.

I have them housed in boxes 4" wide by 2" tall and 6" deep.

They have a neon to indicate when the heater is on at the front. I have 'at a glance' indication of the water temperature and it is accurate to 0.1 degrees.

If any of you guys and girls are interested, I don't mind putting some together.

I can put them together for £65 and £5 p+p. (Parts come to £63.72).

I get a special deal on the instruments because my father is in the trade and is a big customer of the instrument manufacturer. They normally sell on their own anything from £120 upwards.

Some shop bought ones cost about £40 but I must stress that I have used the same specification instruments that control industrial paint factories, hospital equipment, industrial furnaces, etc. so you know they are top of the range.

I should also mention, i've found them to be around 70% more efficient than just using the thermostat you get on the heater.

They will be all ready to fire up, all you will need to do is adjust the set point to suit your requirements.

PS @ Mods: I hope this is OK, I don't think it would be classed as commercial advertising :look: Please let me know if I am breaking any rules :good:

I don't have a problem with it, you are making such a huge profit for such a desirable item, does it even cover the solder you use?

How many watts & whats the voltage? I picked one up in the spring, pre-wired, for an outdoor tub running a 1,000w heater, first one on the page; http://www.jehmco.com/html/temperature_controller.html

...I'm struggling to see a need to be honest  And SELLING electrical items that havnt been tested and certified is fraught with problems - not to mention being illegal.

Im all for home brew, but I think you should rethink this one mate

Nothing is actually soldered, it's all done using crimp terminals.

The units can cope with 2.2kw heaters and run on 240vAC @ 50/60Hz although they can be reconfigured to run on 110vAC

They will be supplied with certificates of conformity (I am 16th Edition & Part P qualified, my company also holds BSI parts 1, 2 & 3) and I can also provide calibration certificates for the probe and controller (although not necessary until 12 months old and is an extra cost).

16th Ed is out of date now ;) Plus that qualifies you, just, to wire a uk domestic property not build control gear (especially in a wet enviroment!)

Throw a wiring diagram up - if your not in it to make profit then it wont hurt ya :) , i'd be interested to see what you've done with it. I've got a big box of spare telemechanique stuff kicking around the office and was thinking about knocking one up. Too lazy and build industrial control panels frequently so struggle to be bothered to do stuff at home :p
