I was given a bunch of live sand that came out of a saltwater fish tank. I want to use it in my fresh water cichlid tank. can i use it if so how do i treat it or clean it? help me out with this please.

no i don't think so. :dunno: sometimes with small amounts of salt you can boil it over and over again and that should do the trick, but in your case probably not.

DONT DO IT!!

go get play sand, its cheap. It would be almost impossible for you to get all the saltwater contaminates out of that sand. microorganisms, SALT....

you name it, its prob in there.

do you have to wash the play sand much before putting it in your tank, and if so how do you go about doing it

half fill a bucket with sand to be waashed and get a hose and direct the water from the hose into the bucket give it a good stir and when the overflowing water is clear it is clean. Repeat as nessecarry.
