Aquarium Salt

Who uses aquarium salt . My mate has just told me to add some to my tank as a fish i bought has white spot which i am treating with anti white spot.

A certain "un-named" local pet shop sold me some once as a tonic kind of thing for stress but any other LFS I have been to seems to think it doesnt do much?

I would also like to know if its any good
