Would these work to seperate different layers of substrates without disturbing plants growth

Found a 3ft by 1ft for £2 so I ordered it anywhy to see what it looks like. I will post some close ups when I get it to see what your opinions are.

OK her are the pics. I have my doubts about some of the thicker roots getting through but I'll let the professionals give me their opinion. I was going to use it to separate my gravel from my seachem flourite and tetraplant complete which would make cleaning much easier. sorry about the quality of the pics but the camera found it hard to focus.

never seen one of these before looks safe but why use one ? in essence the substrate shouldn't have to be cleaned that often in fact almost never ?? well I dont ... but i have snails to turn around my substrate.... the only problem i see this posing is the need to make a deeper gravel layer so you could plant your plants much more easier

hi there, never seen those before. sorry to be a pain but how big is each hole i cant really tell as it depends how close the lens was when taking the pic. could you put something in the pic for size comparisson. anything we can relate to will do. a battery, biro lid, cigarette lighter etc...

i'm trying to work out if it's big enough for the roots to fit through

Sorry I had a great deal of difficulty taking the pic and had to actually hold the thing against the wall to get the pic so trying to add a comparison was impossible. Holes are just larger that a millimeter squared.

those are small holes then..... hmm i see no harm in not using em you dont really have to mix around your gravel it might be usefull for smaller plants but with bigger plantsl ike swords and crypts, the mesh might just be a problem, and when you need to move the plant, the mesh might just get in your way i dunno thats just me

Yeah that was one of my concerns the actual moving of plants. The thing is I really want to keep my garvel on the top. Anyway I will see how much good my amano and cherry shrimps do for cleaning when I get them. I may have a go at using it to prevent my diffuser from burping as often so it isn't a complete waste of £2

personally i think it'll be a night mare. only the smallest of roots will fit through and pulling up a sword for example will pull the whole tank with it.
