Aquaclear Bio Or Sponge

Hello. I have heard that many supposedly take the carbon packs out and insert another sponge for more colonization in the filter.

The 3 things in the filter are sponge, carbon then biomax

Wouldnt a second bag of biomax be better than an extra sponge instead of the carbon?

Which one i gguess has more suface area for the good bacteria to grow on?

I can't speak for everyone, but have run sponge for big gunk, floss for little gunk, and ceramics.
The sponge works well for bio, imo more surface area on ceramic. Sponges are easily cut in half, and easy to pop in more ceramic to fill the space where carbon would be.
