Aqua One

hi all, just got one of those aqua one's aquastart 320 for my son's bedroom, great little tank, thing im worried about is the filteration. It's the undergravel style with powerhead, i used this system when i was younger in my own tanks, but since using up to date filters with sponges etc, and you can see the debris/waste etc being collected, will my son's tank suffer, i.e, being filtered propally, as the crap dosnt go anywhere. Hope this makes sense, as im thinking of going out tomorow to buy a fluval 1 maybe.
