Okay, i have been having problems cycling my tank, so i thought this information would help me out a little.

I feed my fish 2-3 times per day, and i feed the Bichir once a day 1 cube of frozen Brine Shrimp.

Bascily, i kinda need to know how much ammona the following fish would give off per 24 horus (per day):

5 adult Guppies, (4F 1M)
and 1 senigul Bichir (About 4 1/2 inchs long)

Anyone know aprox. how much ammona these fish would give off in my tank per day?

My Tank Size is 28 Gallon Bow-Front.

Thanks in advanced.

The ammonia level will depend upon the filter you have aswell as the age of the tank. But so you know, in the future your bichir will eat your guppies.

It really depends on how much you feed each time too. A few plakes that they eat right away versus enough that the flakes fall to the bottom to decay creates different amounts of ammonia. Stress would probably also be a factor. Just out of curiousity, why do you feed the guppies so often? I feed my fish once a day and even skip a day here and there. Simply cutting down to 1 feeding a day or every other day until the tank cycles would help with the ammonia issue you are experiencing on one of your tanks.

I don't know that anyne will be able to venture much of a guess as the the amount. Just my thoughts though is that I seriously doubt that 4 guppies would create even .25 ppm of ammonia in 24 hours althouh they may be with 3 feedings a day. Don't know much about the bichir.

I know, thats why i have the guppies in there :P

Bascily, my tank is brand new, been setup for prolly about a week now.

I just wanna know aproximate how much ammonia these fish will generate in a tank that has not been cycled at all... a 28 gal tank to be exact. I just need to compare these number for some research i am doing to try and figure out my cycling process.

So if someone can tell me how much ppm per day of ammonia (aproximate, not exact) in a 28 gal tank that would be great.

Thanks.

you should've cycled the tank prior to adding any fish...

Okay, i just need a guideline, and thanks for your reply...

So if you would guess less than .25 per day, for some odd reason, my tank has had 0.50 ppm of ammonia for the past 4 days now, it hasent gone up, or down i dont think... its just steady there, and im trying to figure out if my tank has actualy cycled, but that 0.50 ppm ammonia is just stuck there, or if the tank has not cycled at all... So im TRYING to watch for any increases of ammonia to indicate that it has not cycled (the reason for this research is because i used turbo start)
