Hi,

I was looking into getting an apple snail to clean up some of the left over food and abit of the algae. Firstly would it be ok in my 22g community tank and will it be ok on its own or should they be kept in a pair or more?

The tank has a large piece of bogwood and 3 live plants, will it eat any of the plants?

Thanks in advance,

Shaun

hi there ive had apple snails in the past and they dint eat any of the plans or much of the algae for that matter
possible because i fed them wafers but they can grow to around the size of a ping pong ball once fully grown. lovely little things

Ok thanks for the advice, do they need to be kept in a pair or doesnt it matter? i just wanted to check about them eating my plants as i dont want that to happen lol.

hi there i keep apple snails in 180l and they're awsome.they dont eat plants and do a great clean up job.they dont produce babies unless you have both sexes either.they're not a -sexual

Ok thanks alot for that, i might get 1 this weekend. I guess you need to feed them algae wafers once every 2-3days? Also do they like fruit like cucumber or any others?

It doesn't matter whether they're kept by themselves or in groups.

Make sure you get Pomacea bridgesi though, as other apple snails can eat plants.

Also do they like fruit like cucumber
 Since when are cucumbers fruits?

I'm still waiting on getting some myself, I'm trying to breed them though, I'm most likely going to try them with a few plants at first then move them to a planted tank if they don't eat any plants.

As to your question about feeding, yes they will eat cucumber, and algae wafers. I've found with mine, that they are most active when I add additional food for them (ie algae wafers) only once per week. If I feed them more often, they'll just stick in one spot for hours and only move to eat the wafer and then sit around. However if I feed them once a week, they spend the rest of their time cruising the tank looking for leftovers, and eating some algae off the glass and ornaments.
