Okay, I have just bought this from the aquatic section of a garden centre and it was dirt cheap. But I like it. It has a long stem with a flower on the end, too. Which is well above water level.
Looking at my signiture, is it likely to live?
Does it need any special treatment?
Does it have a common name?

Kindest regards, Si.

I reckon about 80% of the plants available in the UK, be it from an on-line source or from your LFS source their plants from Tropica. Although you cannot buy from them direct, they do have an excellent website with good basic information about the plants they sell on there:

You'll note that this plant has a large rhizome... this is where it stores its reserves which will make it quite an 'apologetic' plant to keep!

Andy

[edit] Sorry, common name: Ruffled Sword Plant

It'll outgrow your tank in no time, Si. No special treatment required. :good:

It does grow VERY long (mine has leafs that grow over 3ft long) so make sure it is located at the back of the tank (not right in the front like I did....)

Inertesting to know it has a large rhizome. I have been thinking of relocating mine but because of its size I thought this might be a problem. I might try trimming it down a lot and seeing if I can dig it up without distrubing the substrate too much.

They are a very nice plant and mine has been pretty much constantly in flower for the last couple of months (which is why I haven't moved it from the front of the tank yet :) ).
