Told you that you might be surprised, she may not have eaten them she might of spat them back out once the coast was clear they do hold them in there mouth for quite a while.

Ian

if they have survived when do you think will see them?,as there has no sign of them, but the female is still guarding the bogwood, and the other female is guarding her cave, which she has made under a amazon sword plant.and whats the likely hood of any of them surviving?considering there in my community tank, which contains neon tetras, scarlet tetras, rosy tetras, otos, corys, and a clown plec

Sorry to hear that mate, its not unusual if its there 1st time anyway it might take them a few go's to get it right. They will have less chance of surviving with your current occupants, ive found tetras to be great fry eaters there so quick at diving in and taking them the parents dont stand a chance of protecting them, also cories are might pose a problem also seeing there most active at night when all the other fish are resting. If you really want to raise some of these i would suggest a small tank set up just for them or failing that wait till they have spawned and remove the eggs/fry and rear them yourself, ive one both but i prefer to let the parents have a go at rearing them as i enjoy seeing them lead there school of fry around the tank searching for food. I wouldnt be to downhearted it wont be long before they spawn again.

Ian

Depends really. If you're putting in the effort of daily changes and it's just for the fry, you might get away with 10g or less, but as always, bigger is better.

You could get away with one pair in a 18x12x12 but i would say your better off with a 24" inch tank, let the parents raise them for the first 3 weeks then remove parents back to community tank and grow the fry on in the 24" with daily water to aid water quality and quicker growth of the babies. hope this helps.

cheers for all the info guys, well i did think they had been eating, but looks like the females are moving the fry to different hiding places around the tank, there isn't as many left, but there are a few, need to talk sweetly to the wife now about a new tank!!

cheers

would it be possible to net the fry that are left and put them into one of those breeding traps that float on top of the tank??

cheers

scott

Hi Scott, yeah that is possible wont be able to stay in there for long though. What used to use is a spice rack from Ikea it already has the holes to attach to suckers then stuck it to the front of the tank there alot bigger than breeding traps you can see it here Homemade breeding trap the top picture there only £2.99 aswell :good: . What are you going to feed them on?

Ian

I always feed mine on bbs(baby brine shrimp) which i hatch myself, but this is usually done in advance, you could try hikari first bites, your lfs should sell it. Do you have any moss in the tank like java moss or moss balls? if so you could pop some of that in with them as it will contain infusoria which they can feed off aswell as fry food(first bites). But remember to remove any uneaten food.

Ian

can't get too ikea, would a breeding net be better, would liquifry food be any good?

cheers
