Apistogrammas - Can Not Identify?

Hi All,

I recently bought some apistogramma's and was hoping the experts could help me identify which are which and whether they should be housed together/separately and then I want to start breeding them! I think I have identified some as CACATUOIDES and maybe one as baenschi? I have another which I could not get a picture of which is larger. See pictures:

I think there all cacatuoides its just the while ones are a different colour version.

1: Apisto. cacatuoides male
2. Apisto. cacatuoides female (leucistic)
3. Apisto. cacatuoides female

Yeah pics one, three and four are all Apistogramma Cacatuoides. Pic one is Male and pic three and four look female. Pic 2 I am not sure about but agree with Kizno that it is most likely a colour variant of Cacatuoides but I am not sure as gender.

What size tank are you keeping them in?

Oh yeah i forgot about sexes. I would say
1)male
2)female
3)male
4)male

Thank you all for your quick responses and helpful info. I have these 3 in a 48 litre tank. Though will probably tank the gold/white one out as I have another 6 juveniles in another tank.

I will try and get photos of the larger one in my other tank as this is a mystery one.

Does anyone have any advise on how to breed these? Tank is set up with a number of 'caves' sand, around 26c. Also what to feed to encourage?

well the appistgramma cacatuoides normally just need a cave or an upturned flower pot
and a raise of temperature and normally a 30% water change sets them off
cacatuoides need a mixed diet... but i think they are carnivorous
they should eat dried blood worm and foods like that

I have the picture of the last apisto which I am sure is not a cac. Is this a baenschi?

Doesn't look like Baenschi.. can you get one when it is calm, and side on?

It could be a baenschi but it looks very stressed so its hard to tell. Maybe let it calm down then snap a few more.

I only took these as I moved him to another tank and he is hiding again amongst the bogwood, coconut caves - unlikely I'll get another photo for a while and don't want to stress anymore. Does anyone have any tips keeping these? Is it easy to source females as not sure what other fish it is compatable with? Unless I put him in my community tank - angels, rainbow fish, red tail shark etc...

How many do you actually have and in what size tanks? If you want them to breed its best to have 1 male and multiple females.

I have 3 tanks:

1 x 30 litre with this baenschi?
1 x 48 litre with 2 x adult cacs and 2 x juvenile golden cacs
1 x 190 litre community - angels, rainbow fish, penguin tetras, red tail shark, bulldog plec

would like to start breeding some apistos, just wanted to understand which i have so can get some more females and also so i can find articles/help on breeding these.

It would be best to separate the albinos from the normals once there sexually mature so they dont cross. I would pick 1 male that you want to breed put all the others in the bigger tank and then try and find 2 females of the same type for him.
