A True Oddball
hey all,
Just a quick, update on my A. panduro.
As some of you know I lost my tank bred pair a little while back, but the wild pair have been going strong.
Today when I was looking in their tank I saw fry!
these are well passed the wriggle stages and are fully formed little fish. From what Ive seen on the net they must be about two weeks old, they arent kept in a big tank but I dont really pay much attention to the tank, as the pair were pretty skitish when I got them, so I tend to leave them to their own devices, only disturbing them for a quick water change or to feed them.
So I hadnt noticed the wriggles, although a few weeks back I though the female had died as I hadnt seen he for ages, and when I move the bog wood she was hiding under it, obviously gaurding the eggs.
Currently the fry are either grey or transparent (cant tell as the water is discoloured by tannins from the monapi) with grey bars/speckling.
As I didnt even know they were around I havent been feeding them, so I gather they have been munching on detris, algae and anything they find living on the clump of java moss in the tank.
Its funny really as I never expected these to breed and yet they have and the fry are doing well, where as my resuced pair of angels spawn every few weeks and never seem to be able to look after the brood long enough for them to be able to fend for themselves. Ok so they arent alone in the tank, there are two ottos and 3 BNs but still.
If these A. panduro fry survive and I can keep them spawning it might make me try some other species of Apistogramma as I do like the looks of other species.
When they are big enough, if they live that long, I will try and get some pictures.
