I have a group of 2 x males and 3 x females in my community tank, all juveniles.
Today I noticed that one of the Females had turned bright yellow from her usual
drab brown, and was very protective of one corner of the tank.

Then I saw that she is gaurding a small batch of free swimming fry - hard to guess
how many but maybe 10 or so. She is doing a great job, even took a bite at Dad when he swam too close.
Unfortunately they won't survive, too many predatory fish in there - particularly the loaches.

But they're near some java moss so hopefully some of them will last awhile

Do you not have another small tank you can move them to?
