OMG my pair of Apistogramma Cacatuoides (Cockatoo Cichlid) have had fry already (30 odd to be precise!)

Don't know what I expected really :fun: ......now what?

My plan is to leave them be till they are a little bigger then keep them in a breeding trap in my larger tank till they are a size to pass on. Mum & Dad were £20 the pair so the fry must be worth something later, eh? :hey:

Looks like this is going to be a regular thing, guess I thought it was not going to be this easy to breed them.........

Thanks.....it was strange really. I did a water change on Sunday and tonight I was a little pieved as I saw what I thought was a load of crud swirling around the sand already. It was only when I put my specs on that I realized it was a shoal of tiny fry! :hyper:

fry in soft focus eh?

Tiny little blighters, aren't they?
Glad you didn't hoover them up before putting the specs on! ;)

Ho ho, guess it was a female after all ;)

fry already?! congrats

what are you feeding them?

Hi Doresy,

Congratulations on the fry! :good:

Can I ask, how many A. Cacatuoides do you have? Only 2? Are they in with any other types of fish or a species tank?

I ask because I am starting a tank for the very same fish, and haven't yet quite decided on male to female ratio etc.

Cheers :good:

BTT

P.S. How's the new job going?

Cheers.

The details of the stock in that tank is in my signiture so yes I do just have the 2. Due to the size of the tank it is not possible for 2 females to secure a territory for their fry so I have gone for the mating pair.
The female is constantly chasing the pygmy cory away from her fry now she has them where she used to ignor them.

Into the second week of the job and going well.

Congratulations on the job! And the fry! When they're ready to move on, I'd be interested - I'm only a few miles away :good:

Well, sorry to say that all the fry have gone

My guess is that mum was so fanatical about continually chasing the pygmy cory away that either she or dad got confused and ate all their kids

This can sometimes happen with new parents (in the fish world ;) ) Better luck next time hopefully and just in case I have now removed all the cory so it's just the 2 of them in there now.
