I use the api test kit for most of my tests. I usually test for everything but ammonia, as I have meters for that in all three of my tanks. I don’t test ph in the axolotl tank because I have a meter in there. I usually test parameters the day after a change.

That is fine, but you need to test prior to a water change in order to know if anything is occurring. The pH could alert you to something, and it will fluctuate under certain conditions.

BTW, to ensure we are all on the same page, "parameters" refers to GH, KH, pH and temperature only. Conditions like ammonia, nitrite and nitrate are conditions not parameters. These should always be tested prior to a water change so you can assess the water condition after it has been running since the last WC.
