Sorry to bother you all with my fishless cycling woes.

So despite my previous posts my cycle suddenly took a massive leap forward and is now processing about 5ppm ammonia in 1.5-2 days. No nitrates yet. The nitrites however have not shown up at all yet - a bit odd after 6 days and a lot of ammonia eaten.

When I first put the drops in it goes purple at the bottom of the tube, but once i shake it it goes back to blueish and doesnt change. I read in the pinned fishless cycling post that this can mean that the score is off the scale and that it stays blue as there is no colour for it.

Does anyone have any experience of this?

Yes, if its not a very pale, clearish, sky blue, then its not a zero ppm nitrite reading. I guess its darker, muddy blue or something?

Seeing any strong purple at all right after the drops go in should mean you are spiking nitrite and are in to the second stage of fishless cycling.

Yup def muddy and not a sky blue.

Thanks you have made me feel much better!

You might want to consider a cycle booster. Seachem stability cycled my tank completely in 9 days. Great job on the fishless cycle.
