Hi ,Pets at home sell a shrimp ,under the name of a freshwater shrimp ,does anyone know what it`s real name is and if their eggs will survive in a tropical tank, thanks?

they sell 2 under that name: amano and ghost

amano shrimp cannot breed in freshwater aquaria as they need brackish conditions for their young to pass through the larval phase, ghost shrimp can breed in freshwater.

Would they admit it? The Amano is usually called Yamoto shrimps in pets at home i think.

Thanks Coldcazzie ,i can`t believe i now know the name of them ,i`ve got a female with loads of eggs under her ,so i`m hoping that they`ll grow ,they`re [ 2 ghost shrimps]in my 28l with a betta and five neons ,have you raised any yourself?
Must have posted at the same time ,that`s why Cooper.

They're both in the same tank just labelled "freshwater shrimp" at mine... :sly:

No I haven't my ghost was berried (holding eggs) when I got her, and then somewhere along the way they have vanished, but I've yet to see any shrimplets... on the other hand it took ages for me to see cherry shrimplets so maybe I'm just being too eager! I'll let you know lol

Ask to speak to the person who orders their fish if you want to be sure
