I really like PFS on my other tanks. I personally think it looks better than large-grained gravels and is easier to maintain than sand.

But for Lake Tang tank, one of the species I will introduce is the shellies which obviously likes to dig. Given the grain size of PFS, will they feel comfortable? The ones I've seen have grains from 0.5mm up to 2mm.

Apprecaite any feedback from someone who has done this before... :D

I have a 46 gal. lake tang. tank....and no sand, they are all just fine! I have gravel......my LFS (which is a huge supplier of lake tang.'s) doesn't have sand in their 100 gal. display tank......

What is the size of the gravel in those tanks?

I use real beach sand in my shellie tanks, as well as play sand in a couple others. The pool filter sand is a bit larger grained generally, but they will have no problem digging it all up; dont worry

I have very fine sand my tang tank. The sand plays a very large part in my shelldweller's activities and reproduction. Sand is best. It is also very easy to clean and looks good too. But what exactly is "PFS"? I'm assuming Playground Fine Sand?

PFS stands for Pool Filter Sand. My 25g has these, and my 33g has play sand. You can click on my tank links to see how they differ visually. From maintenance view, PFS is definitely easier to deal with, and mess are less visible too.
