Anyone Use This?

I bought it when I started out at fish keeping and it says it contains natural micro organisms. Forgot all about it and found it a year later and thought I should use it seeing as it expires this year. But both times I used it after a water change, two danios died, unexplainably.......
Also the algae population in my tank decreased quite substantially.............
