Just wondering if anyone here does basicually? Such a beautiful fish, would love one of them some day.
Don't think it'll ever happen though as they need a massive tank, 180g i heard and even more for a pair?

I have a 7 inch jag in my 55 gallon. But I have an empty 90 for him in the garage. And when he outgrows that, I have an excuse to get a bigger tank ;)

As you said either housing in a community but over 250us reccomended by me,,,

If you can provide a tank for one solely then something around 5/2/2 up would be great, I really miss brutis, had him in a 5/2/2 with other fish, he was great for two years then suddenly owned the entire tank, had to rehome him, went to another forum owner who has him in a 300g tank with other fish and he is doing well

They certainly are a stunning fish, once i sort myself out and get some big tank i shall get again

JAGUAR CICHLID

Salvinis are a good alternative, they are basically mini Jaguars but different colours, also Red Tiger Motaganese even closer to a Jag looks wise....(but these are very rare)

Oh yeah theres a few that could look sort of like, as said a salvini certainly match with attitude....hehe...mine had a real attitude problem..
motaguensis are stunning, also Parachromis loisellei  Parachromis friedrichsthalii
My all time favourite Parachromis dovii, but they get ummm big...hehe...also Cichlasoma urophthalmus look good as do Paratilapia bleekeri if you can find them, more common are the polleni<small spots

Yeah i would love a Dovii one day, they really are the king of American Cichlids, true monsters.

I'm gonna guess ur tank stock is still same as your sig? how does the jag get on with the green terror (male/female)?

JAGUAR CICHLID

I've seen that link before, when i first got into fish keeping and i was researching fish.
Didn't notice it was from this forum though until now as i joined a while after, it helped me alot too & such a nice fish.

Salvini are beautiful fish too, i asked on here a little while back about them too - been trying to get myself a tank for a pair since lol.
They do kind of balance each other out imo;
jags size adds to its pure beaut where as the salvinis yellow helps with its smaller size (how i see it anyway).

Have you ever looked into cuban cichlids<Nandopsis tetracanthus? stunning...max around 10inchs,,,weve had a few in my old lfs over the time,

Never seen these before, my knowledge of cichlids is still growing - only really know about the more common ones lol.
Very nice fish too and at about 10inch would be alot easier to get a tank right for them :D

What're they like aggression wise?

So so, Around any of mid-agressive.... Cichlids some can be mild mannered where as others of same species can be super aggresive, this applys to any cichlid

Yeah like my male green terror is abit of a girl when it comes to aggression lol.

Salvini still on my top list of fish though, one of the best looking fish i've seen imo lol.

How big's your GT Proxo? my old one i had that was 6" (before i sold it with my 6ft tank) was a right softy

I've read that they can get more aggressive around the 6"+ mark, i'd say mine was about 4 1/2 to 5 inch, there's a pair of kribs
in the tank too and he gets a little trouble from the male too.

He did get pretty aggressive a while back and would even go for my hand during cleaning, chilled back out again now though!
