I have something growing in my tank and don't know what it is, its black and stringy like, like cotton thread and is growning on everything, wood, plants, filter.

Any info would be great.

Thanks.

welcome to the party & good luck
this is some help plus there's lots of threads on this section about BBA
Basically, it's a PITA

I'd say black beard or hair algae... ideally you can zap it with treatments having the fish in the tank, but I'd take the fish out of the tank, and the filter, replace the filter with a power-head and put the fish and filter(s) in a tuff crate or two until the treatment runs its course... that way the fish aren't subjected to unnecessary meds...

Yeah, I gave up trying to fight that and just replaced all my plants and gave everything else a scrub. Got the worst of it out.

i have that taking over my 95 litre... i'm stripping everything down and cleaning everything with lemon juice... then getting new plants, gravel etc...

In the past i've had best results with.

removing the worst leaves & manual removal from hardscape.

dosing easycarbo & all in one ferts daily

add cheap, quick growing stems

cross fingers.

Mine does return periodically, which indicates i haven't successfully addressed the root cause.Probably low CO2

have a look at some algae guides, such as james planted tank. looks like you have a few different types there

I had a small amount in my betta tank recently, I dosed the tank with Flourish Excel for a few days and it cleared up.
