today i went to my lfs with the other half and she noticed some chocolate gouramis which are very pretty so we bought two and put them in our quarantine tank my misses would like to get more of them which i dont mind but i was just wondering if any one had kept these before and would they be ok in my discus aquarium with sharks, corys, bristlenoses, fighter.
cheers

For one thing they need a low ph to be healthy, what is the ph of your aquarium? im guessing it should be fairly low if you have discus already, as for the compatibility with your fish im not sure, if some of them are at all aggressive it might suffer but im no expert as i havent kept them before.

EDIT: what to you mean by sharks? and by fighter i assume u mean a siamese fighting fish AKA betta? Siamese fighting fish can cause alot of problems in community aquariums and from what ive read they are best kept in smaller tanks on there own or with a very select choice of tank mates, ie dwarf frogs and such.

cheers all will give it a go and see what happens thanks again :fish:

I'd keep a close eye on the fighter, as Mike said some of them don't do well in a community tank.
Bettas and Gouramis should never be kept in a tank together as there is a good chance that they will fight.

and the sharks, whichever type hey may be. i can't think of a single fish with shark in the common name that i would recommend as a companion for discus. i know that's not your question but worth mentioning as i could see that causing big problems and discus are expensive fish!

my sharks have been with me for ages now and never had any problems with them at all my breeding pair of discus are 4 years old and they have been with the sharks which are red tailed black 7inches long, silver 4 inches long, albino rainbow shark 4 inches long all sizes are estimates they have all settled well into the new aquarium(350ltr) that is planted well and maintained weekly 30% water change weekly PH 6.8 GH 7 NITRATES TRACE NITRITE TRACE TEMP 29.4 DEGREES
also thinking of adding CO2 unit shortly
Filtered by an external rena filstar xp3 over a thousand litres per hour
Also been using easy balance at water change

my other half is the fighter fan we had a bright red one for over two years with no trouble at all but he recently passed away (misses was gutted) so i replaced him the other day with a stunning blue one for her she loved him never kept gouramis with him before though so thanks for letting me know will keep my eye on them
CHEERS. :good:
