Anyone Keep Salvini?

I've wanted salvini forever... but hadn't seen them around here before... saw some little guys around 1.5'' at the lfs for $5 so had to pick one up..

It's in a 75g with a few 2.5'' cichlids, and some silver dollars.... Really neat looking, interesting personality.. I believe it is a female..

anyways, just curious if anyone else has them.. how have they been.. mean? nice?.. how about breeding.. ever get them to spawn?

i had a pair but my male died yesterday and the female doesn't look to good

but they were lovely coloured!

I have a Salvini, they have protruding teeth when u look closely in comparison to other medium sized cichlids like the Jack whose teeth are kept behind his huge lips... Or maybe its just the way my Salvini faces me so i can see his teeth

They are quite nice fish which are more interested in just dithering in the tank unlike a JD or GT which are more prone to swimming around looking for aggro. They can look after themselves though so dont be afraid if you have a tank of aggressive fish.

Great little fish that can pack a very hard punch if they happen to get picked on Lol. They tend to mind there own buisness unless someone picks a fight on them or when breeding. In either case the salvini 9 times out of 10 will come on top B)

I've been surprised at how calm it is actually.. I was expecting it to start fighting for dominance right away, but it hasn't flared at anyone, or even tried to stand up to any of the other fish.

It's only about 1-1.5'' right now.. I watched the tank at the store for a good 5 minutes so I could pick out one that wasn't fighting with any of the others... 1/2 of them had pieces out of their tails, so I assumed they were the males fighting for dominance..

I'm going to pick another one up if I see them again..

I know what you mean about the teeth.. I can definitely see them a lot easier then I can my jds teeth.. yours is pretty different looking then mine.. mines very yellow and has vertical black stripes.. I'll try to get a pic tomorrow.

My little guy/girl has decided it wants to move up in the ranks.. it wont leave my parrot or severums alone.. and it's about a 3rd their size.. My jack dempsey in the same tank keeps attacking my silver dollars, so it's going to a different tank with only cichlids.

The little guy/girl follows my finger all over the tank, and is really interested in what I'm doing when I'm near the tank.. I want another one.
