right this may sound a stupid question, but i wont know till i ask, and it safer to ask then not know, i know if you use a filter media from a established aquarium in your own filter it helps speed thing up, im just wondering can you use filter out of a pond, i have had a pond in my gardon for about 10 years, so im just wondering if you could use that filter media, or is it not possible?

thanks

Yes, you can use pond media; it's all the same bacteria.

thanks for the answer, does it mater that my tank is tropical, and the pond is cold water, and will there be anything like parisites on the pond filter? thanks

No, it doesn't matter that the tank is tropical and the pond is coldwater. It's very unlikely that there'll be any parasites present, as long as your pond is healthy.

I think I read someone (possibly WaterDrop) saying that this will be fine however you should bring the media up to temperature slowly. By this I assume you let the tank cool right down, add the media to the filter and then bring the tank up to operating temp.
