hi
i have read amano shrimp are escape artists. i won’t use my Python cleaning system. might suck a shrimp. so if i just use a hose with screen top still on ( part way) how fast are these little buggers?to escape.

maybe put sponge/cloth over python?
it may be slower :(

that might work. thanks. the problem would be the python tube is wider and more of the screen top would be open.
i wish there were glo-amanos. lol they aren’t easy to see and they hide. 😉

they are fast bugs!!!
faster than ants

Use a normal gravel cleaner and syphon the water into a white bucket. Then scoop out any shrimp and put them back in the tank.

If you move the gravel cleaner around the tank slowly, most of the shrimp will move out of the way. If you suck one up, kink the syphon hose and let the shrimp get out.

thanks. good idea. some are getting easier to see. there were very small ones in my purchase. they hang upside on floating plants ☺️so i will be extra careful.

Mine stay of the way of the syphon. They don't try to escape.
thanks i’ll have to be careful. right now i use a long like turkey baster. it’s a tube to “ feed coral” i remove the uneaten food.

yeah i’ve read that. i have to say i so enjoy watching them. such unique creatures.
i like to watch documentaries of sea creatures. it’s unbelievable what the ocean has. 🐠🦞🐡

The screen will keep them out of the syphon, but they're good at staying out of the way. I've never had one make a run for it during cleaning. And in my experience, they only try to escape when they're in new surroundings or when there's a water quality problem. Once they settle in, they're there to stay. Amanos are among my favorite water critters. :) So fun to watch.

well i just completed the water change for my amano shrimp tank. i was nervous- but we survived. lol thanks for everyone’s replies.

Use a knee-high nylon stocking over the end of the Python when siphoning, that's what I do with all of my tanks, I never worry about hoovering shrimp or fish
