Has anyone here ever tried to spray wood to seal it for fish tank use?    I found a small piece of wood that the county tree cutters chopped up while they were clearing the lane I live on.  It is a neat little piece of tree. But what kind I do not know. Probably what we call wild shrub because that is mostly what grows on the sides of the lane.

Anyway, I was thinking that if people use the spray to seal the DIY backgrounds, why couldn't that work for wood as well?  I figure it would probably take a lot of spraying because it would soak into the wood. But it seems possible.

Any thoughts?

What's in the spray I would be asking myself.

Seems like a really bad idea, honestly.  If you are looking for 'branchy' type wood for your tank that is aquarium safe, try manzanita.  It is easily sourced in the US.

This isn't branchy. It just looks like a little log.     As for whats in the spray, I have no idea, I have not gotten that far yet as I only found the little piece this morning.  I figured I would let it soak until it sank and then spray it. But now that thought seems a bit silly.

Oh well, I really like the little piece. Wish I could find one like somewhere that I know is safe.  Where do you get manzanita in the US?

edited to add -- I found a website, pretty reasonable. Maybe this way is better than just picking up somewhere.

Does it have bark on it? if so I'd advise against using it

Safer but less fun :)
