Anyone Else's Pleco Eat From Top?

My plec has always gone up the top to try get some flake, it'd kind of balance itself in corner of the top upside down on the algea magnet.
He wouldn't really get much though..

Recently been feeding my fish Hikari Cichlid Gold (floating) though and now my pleco will
sometimes shoot to the surface and grab a pellet..

I've tried cucumber, sinking wafers/foods but he/she just doesnt really bother with them lol.

Anyone else have a pleco that eats from the surface too? lol.

A few years ago I had a common Pleco, Lurch was his name lol. He ate his wafers but loved coming up for flake and blood worms while I was feeding my angel. I'm not sure if he did it to irritate Scar (my angelfish) or what. He got so comfortable that he a actually came up to the top, went upside down with his mouth on the surface of the water and waited for me to drop food in his mouth. It was pretty entertaining. Not only did I have an angelfish that danced like crazy everytime he saw me but I had a pleco that came rushing out to see me too. I guess they thought it was food time everytime I came around lol

Only seen that behaviour once and I believe that the reason the plec done that was because it was getting absolutely no food. Just flakes. I did tell the person whose tank it was that a plec needs something other than flake but it fell on deaf ears I'm afraid.

I've never seen mine exhibit that sort of behaviour, but then again, I barely see mine. He has been in there for around 8 months and anytime he see's me he hides again. I only know he's alive when I trick him and all lights are off in the room and tank and a quickly switch on the room light. Minute he has spotted me he's gone. Would like to get a few bristlenose, he's a common.

I've always fed my plecs the best i can though, could possibly be when the plec was smaller it wasnt getting much food due to my 'larger' cichlids
and it has now just became a normal thing for it to go to the surface for food now.

I've also managed to hand feed my pleco once or twice too.

When I feed my display tank..... I feed all the fish on the left side of my sliding mirror....The Pleco knows to wait on the right hand side and he gets his surface flakes on that side.... much more than I feed the rest of the tank.

Lol yeah i know, i was just saying as you said you've only seen that behaviour when a plec hasn't been fed correctly that it might not
always be the cause of the plec eating from the surface of the tank
