Is it at all possible, in your opinion (and I won't shoot you if you are honest) that some bettas actually LIKE a 1-2g tank?

Take Jai for example. Brought him home from LFS and he went into temporary accommodation (lol) of a 1g tank and built fabulous bubble nests the first 2 days he was in there, was very perky indeed.

Since he went into his 3.3g at the weekend, he's not made a single nest and is pretty still. He has the odd swim about, mostly when I approach him and make a fuss of him. He's eating/pooing fine though.

I'm doing an experiment. I've put him back into the 1g JUST to SEE his behaviour, and it works out fine because I want to clean his 3.3g anyway, so knowing he likes the 1g I'm happy for him to be in there for now.

So repeating the first line of my post, the question again is:
Is it at all possible, in your opinion (and I won't shoot you if you are honest) that some bettas actually LIKE a 1-2g tank?

Why make yet another topic, when you could easily just continue the conversation about size of tanks that you started HERE?

I would say yes; one of my bettas was exactly the same as how you've said Jai is - he was so much happier in his smaller tank. I guess each betta has their own personality & some prefer smaller tanks to bigger ones! :)

that happened with my Zephyr, he was put into a 1g temporarily when his tank cracked, and built HUMUNGUS bubble nests but he never built a single one in his big tank. I never understood why to be honest!

half the time its due to the fact that in a smaller tank you dont have a filter so the flow doesnt destroy what they try to build. Not all bettas produce nests all the time, it doesnt mean that they arent happy

Yup, they definitely have their own preferences. Everything/one has their own preferences in everything. I'd say if Jai reacts the way he did before then leave him there, he obviously prefers it. As long as you keep up with water changes and keeping him healthy then there's no problem. :good:

god you really don't like me do you lol

Whats the harm in starting new topics, its not like it gets clogged up on here. I have started a few some of which i could have put togeter, and after all this may be similar to the other topic but it is not the same, its a different question. Sorry but i don't see the harm.

I say if he likes it leave him to it :good:

Cheers girls, I'm going to leave him overnight in there and see what happens. It's bizarre, he's way more active in a 1g than he was before, strange boy!!

And I do think this topic is different to the other one - sometimes people don't read if you add to an old one x

I agree I don't see any thing wrong with new topics, I also have started quite a few. I have kept bettas in 1.5 gallon tanks before and they have seemed to go OK, however I personally perfer 3 gallon and above. Not saying that they wouldn't like 1 gallon, I'm sure that could be very possible.

maybe he is just used to a smaller tank, so therefore feels safer in there rather than a big open space, if he's happy in there then i see no problem :good:

I had a betta who seemed happier, more active, friskier in his 1 gallon tank than in the 10 gallon tank I moved him into. I think they do have different personalities and different preferences.

my old betta harry was like that i got him a 1.7gal tank then thaut that was too small and got him a 5 gall 1 he didnt like the big tank i dont thinkYou could divide your 3.3 gall tank into 2 or maby 3

It's a case of what they've gotten used to. Many bettas, as youngsters, are kept in small 1g tanks and therefore a larger tank makes them feel exposed and insecure. Fair enough. All my home-bred bettas are raised in a large 20g tank. If I was to put any of them in a tiny tank they'd be highly miffed. If they're more comfy in a smaller tank then so be it. If they prefer no filter then so be it. I treat all my bettas as individuals. Some have tanks up to 8g in size, others just 3g. The girls have a 35g. They're all happy.
