I have a new 30 gallon tank, and I'd like to try cichlids this time. (I always do non-aggressive, community fish.) well I have a community tank, and a betta tank... so I'd like to try some new territory and look at some new world Cichlids.

I'm looking at the Bolivian Ram and the double full red cockatoo (not together... it would be either or... I'd either get 2 Bolivians or two cockatoos.)

I have a 36 gal with a keyhole, 2 bolvaian rams, male betta, and feme blue acara she is just temp in this tank.

They get long fine. My betta hides out in the plants this was just a temp home for him but I don't think he minds it. The other fish don't bother him.

There are many dwarf cichlid option for that size tank. A cockatoo and ram could work if you have enough cover for them all.

I didn't realize how expensive the double full red cockatoo cichlids are! lol almost $70 a piece. not good for my first attempt with Cichlids...

so I may downgrade to a ram... they're still kind of cute.

You could try Kribensis. they are a nice community fish.Warning that they do get protective over there spawning sight and fry.
The males usually have eyespots on there tails and females are bright colors and have more rounded bellies.Be sure if you do consider to get these supply a few caves for them. The males get to be about 4" and females get about 3"

Here is some info and videos for you if interested.

OMG they are so cute! I've never seen one before. but according to drs foster and smith, they need a minimum of a 50 gallon tank... I only have a 30 gallon.

The minimum tank size for a pair of kribs is 20 gallons.50 gallon tank would be great but you definatly don't need a 50 gallon. If you have live plants they will nipp at them but won't do severe damage to them.
I'd really consider getting them though there easy to breed they pair off easy and they have really bright spawning colors!
They Are usually around 8$ or less depends on the size.

They are quite attractive. I will definately consider them once my tank is cycled. (which will be a while from now. I'm still in the cleaning process. When I got it, it was in pretty nasty condition. The previous owner used it as a saltwater tank... and it looked as if it wasn't cleaned in a year. It has caked on salt inside and out. I'm getting it off little by little with white vinager... but it's not easy going I'll tell you that much)

You can keep rams in a 30 gal no problem. A keyhole cichlid would be good they make good take mate for rams too.Laetacara dorsigerus aka Smiling acaras are cute and would be good. If you could find one. Another one if you can find it is the checkerboard cichild they are 3" and neat looking.

Bolvaina ram would be best they tend to be a bit more hardy then the Blue rams. Yes rams are cute I love mine.
