Heyya x

you are all probably sick of me by now! i do apolagise!

just looking at my 48ltr and think i shall be upgrading to a 60 ltr soon, possibly. Anyway, in my tank is 11 neon tetras and 4 ottos. could i fit anymore tetras in? im thinking of making it 15 neons? am i pushing it a bit...i just love the little guys!

:thanks:

yeh 15 will be fine, i had 20 at one stage  but sold them. buying more though :D

just remeber transfer all the current water to the new tank.

in a 60 you could easily fit 20 in with no problems like said above move about 75% of tank water into new tank and then top it up with fresh water that should be fine then there will be no shock over the change

Upping the shoal to 15 will be fine.
Transferring water won't make much difference to a new tank, the bacteria is in the sponges in your filter. Once you have your new tank, you can transfer the filter straight over which should enable you to transfer the fish straight over, although it is worth checking the water stas befor doing this.

keeping 50% of the old water will help as the change over wont be as much as a shock. and the water and filters will be mature, so if you transfer both, their is no risk of the neons dying

It will help temperature wise although I'd still recommend testing your water stats before adding them.

a mature tank, has good water chemistry, and all the chemicals we dont test for will be stable (good for delicate fish like neons)

A mature tank does have good water chemistry but it's still the filter sponge that holds the bacteria.
I am only advising checking the water as I very nearly lost my Keyhole Cichlids when transferring the fish in this way.

yeh i know its kept in the filters the bacteria that is, but the old water will help the fish settle in because its what there used to. and the chemistry change wont be as much of a shock to the fish

I'm actually agreeing with you Truck, just explaining to the OP about the process. I'm also making sure that the water be tested just to be on the safe side. ;)
