All of those should be ok, with the tetra make sure you get 8-10 of each species or get 20-30 of one species, as that normally looks better anyway as they all shoal.

With the plec make sure you don't get a common plec as they grow huge and your tank isn't big enough.

But make sure you cycle the tank first, head over to the beginners section and have a read before you stock it with any fish.

Oh and welcome to the forum :)

Oh one more thing I wouldn't suggest the blue ram as a novice/new tank. They are extremely hard to keep, and they need perfect water. I would suggest the Bolivian ram instead much hardier, and looks are only slightly less dull.

In all fairness, the GBR needs a warmer temperature so wouldn't be ideal even for a more experienced aquarist. The Bolivian Ram is a far better choice and better looking imo.

Thankyou for all the replies, really helpfull.. I had tropical fish a few years ago but didn't really have the time/money to really get into it (poor student :( ) So im excited to get started again with some more interesting fish :) Im really lucky to have a great local fish shop just 5 miles away and the guy has been great... and has some LOVELY fish!!

I just have a few more questions if you don't mind ? :D...

1) What would be the ideal temperature for the fish I have mentioned above .. (its currently 24.9 but I can turn it up/down if need be)

2) Would a 10% water change weekly be about right? (when its established)

Thanks again :) x

1. Yes, apart from the german blue rams

2. Yes depending on filtration and how heavily stocked you are planning on going.

How does this sound...

4x Platinum angels
2x Hypancistrus sp. (L201)
2x Leopard frog pleco (L134)
10-20x Rummynose Tetras
?x Apistogramma Cacatuoides, double red
?x Denison Barb

I am nowhere near ready to begin adding fish.. I am just getting ideas :)..

Anyone got any comments/suggestions/ideas on the fish that i like ? :D

Thanks all x

Drop the Denisons they need a large tank as they are very fast fish, they also need a lower end of the scale temperature. I've got 16 rummynose and they make an excellent addition to a tank, they wont fail to impress you. As for the rest, i'll let other people chip in.

Thanks Tizer.. I seen the denison barbs in my LFS.. they are pretty impressive! I thought they might be too big as they were pretty big :( thats a shame.. but theres plenty more fish in the sea :)

What are the dimensions of the tank? Angels need a tall tank. 18" would be a minimum imo. A trio of apisto's should work well too.

yeah i really like them too, i've got a 5 foot tank which could house a few young ones, but since seeing some adults in an 8 foot tank, in a shop near me, i just felt they needed a bigger footprint. When they get spooked, they can cover one end of the tank to the other in milli seconds, very very fast fishies. I didnt want to watch them swimming into the glass all the time, plus they are quite pricey at £10 each and the minimum you should really keep is 6.

Thanks minnnt :)

Tank dimensions are 39" x 16" x 19" is on the website .. i measured my water in the tank and its 18" rather than 19" would they be happy in a tank of that dimensions?

Oh and as for the apisto's .. are they happiest in 3's? and what M:F ratio?

Thanks again :)

Yeah i know.. i can't beleieve some of the prices.. the Denisons were £9.99 like you said.. the leopard frog pleco is £45!!!!! ... but REALLY nice.. ! I must have expensive taste :(

yeh, and very expensive fish to stock initially while you are getting the hang of it all again. Make sure you have a good read of cycling the filter, it could take a month before your tank is ready for fish, sometimes longer.

yeah definately going to wait and do it right :)... the beginners bit on here is great... I hate waiting but it'll all be worth the wait in the end :) !

Im not gonna get the really expensive fish anytime soon anyway! I don't want ANY of my fish to die, whether it be a 99p fish or a £99 fish :( but if it was a £45 it would make it even worse if it did die :( !!

thanks again tizer :)
