I'm currently doing some research for future fish to add to my community once my new tank has cycled. I currently have in my old tank one pair of Bn, 18 Bn fry, 2 sunset platys, 2 rainbow platys, 2 neon, 2 harliquin rasbora, 3 panda cories, 1 sterbai and an armoured fan shrimp. I know I need to increase the cories population and also the neons and harliquins. Obvioulsy I will find the Bn fry homes when they are old enough, although may keep a couple.

Not sure what else I could have in there eventually? Really like rainbow fish and glass catfish are interesting. Just want a really peaceful community.

Any ideas?

Tank: 260 litres
water orginally 7pH
rest of tank cycling

well once you've upped the numbers of cories, rasboras and neons to 6 the tank is roughly half full (assuming you only keep your original BN's, obviously you'll need to recalculate if you keep more) so you've loads of room to play with.

a shoal of rainbows would go really nicely in there, i also like congo tetra's a lot so maybe look those up.

depending on how peaceful you want to keep it you could maybe put in a pair of rams or something like that, they can be a little aggressive when breeding but most of the time won't cause any problems.

glass cats would also work, you need at least 6 and they do better in a mature tank so give it a few months

I would maybe go for a pair of Blue German Rams if you can get hold of them, their colours are amazing and as Miss Wiggle said their relatively harmless. Any shoal of Rainbow Fish would look good in your tank, I currently have 4 Praecox Rainbowfish and they look great. :good:

Thinking of possibly getting another platy (mine are all female) so they can get jiggy! Plus I love fry!!! Going to stay away from guppies. Had them before and they breed like rabbits!

Also seen freshwater clams in a nearby fishy shop. Are they had to keep?

Unless you want a huge amount of platys I would stick with the females my platys bread like mad and after offloading the fry (over 40 in a 2 month spell) I had to get rid of my females :-( . My males are not quite as happy now though its just a case of how much you love fry. Good luck :good:

whos'e the yoda of fishkeeping?! lol

platys breed just as much as guppies, but they're bigger so you need even more space.

are the clams Corbicula fluminea (google for pics)?

here's some info on them

personally i wouldn't get one, filter feeders don't tend to do all that well in tropical tanks, unlikely to be enough food for them to feed off. i would expect them to live for a couple of months then die and horribly pollute your water :/ not kept them myself so someone please correct me if i'm wrong, but just from a little info i've found from google i wouldn't risk it in my tank.
