Got an odd thing in with my brine shrimp. It's about inch long, pointy nose & is black & clear. It's very fast too.
Any ideas what it is? Thanks

No idea, but it's cool looking!

Did you buy these brine shrimp from the store or raise them yourself?

it looks like a juvenile fish of some sort. Got any more pics of it, preferably a side view?

It came in a bag of brine shrimp I got this week. They've been in fridge in a jug and when i was about to tip it out i saw it. Will get some more pictures in a bit. Not quite sure what to do with it....if its been with the brine shrimps which i believe are in brine water could it be marine?

Id prob wait a while for it to grow a bit bigger then identifying it will prob be easier. Maybe ask in the marine bit if they have any ideas. xx

Sorry cant get decent pics from the side as it's so transparant and won't stay still long enough.

At a guess it could quite possibly be a species of Anthurid isopod. Probably from the genus Mesanthura.
I would air on the side of caution and refrain from letting it loose in your tank

Thanks big C i've got it netted in a tank . I take it that what you said it may be isn't nice

Perhaps you can contact your supplier and ask if they know what it is, i am sure they would have seen many of them in the past.

I have and no he doesn't lol, never seen one before. All he can think is that its an egg of some sort that hatched and has been feeding on the brine shrimp.l After all this it will prob be dead in morning.

Given that you're keeping freshwater tropicals then the critter will probably die within minutes. So therefore this type of thing wouldn't pose a problem. But I wouldn't risk any foreign body being placed in your tank.
If it is a Mesanthura type sp. then some are predators. So I'd get rid of the offending critter.

Hi Dusky

It looks pretty much like a glass worm. When you go back to the lfs, see if they sell glassworm too and have a look. They come in those sealed bags like the brine shrimp :good:

Glassworm are freshwater critters/larvae, Brineshrimp are in Saltwater.

Yeh, but they are processed and bagged at the same place. It is possible? especially if it was a new shipment in :)
