Any idea what this is

so it isnt a gibbeceps? not saying it is, but it looks like a clown to me. the gibbeceps i used to get in at my store NEVER looked like that! i dont know though. im not really a pleco guy. i only have the two i do cause they were given to me. last one i bought was a mustard and it died for who knows what reason.

This is a myth and I have seen dozens of plecs rturned to the LFS because of it
 
its the same family as the gibby, but the colours are ther other way around, L001 max out at around 10" much smaller than gibbies.

I have one which I bought at about 1.5" he is now knocking on 10" after about 2 yrs (if that long)

True.
Though this can be the case for some fish, but it's not nearly as simple as that, depends on many factors. Regardless, 'stunting' is not good for them.
