Hi all

This is my first post on here. I'm looking to get a 125l tank and would like an external filter.
Are there any tanks that you don't need to butcher the lid, as to fit an external filter tubing.

I also tested my tap water today, nitrates are a painfull 40ppm. So i thought i could not start owning tropical fish. I ordered a aquaworld nitrate remover, which I thought would be a bit of a gimmick.

Nitrates now read 0ppm. So now I want to go ahead and get my 1st tank. I know I can buy 125l tanks with all the kit and internal filters. But thought I might get all bits separate and get what I really want.

Any thoughts on a tank would be great
Thanks

Jewel Rio 125 ltr has an internal filter which is quite easy to remove and has cut out in the tank to accomodate external filter pipes. A quick trip to your LFS would enable you to view alternatives.

Yep, i would agree. If at all possible visit a LFS or pet store and take a tape measure..ask on here the diameters of any cuts you may HAVE to make. I run a Fluval 205 (external) on my 110L tank which provides more than enough filtration for the size of the colony of bacteria i need to get rid of what i don't want in my tank.
With regards to your NitrAtes, you should be looking at getting them to as close as you can to your tap water, with only regular water changes and/or an extensively planted tank being able to lower the 'trAtes reading in your tank... invest in a liquid based NitrAte test kit.... completely ignore any chemical product that promotes the fact that it can lower any reading of any chemical that is naturally occuring in your tank water, they are very usually a complete waste of money and can sometimes make situations even worse.
There are very, very good articles within the begginers section of this forum, a particulary good one can be read in the link within my signature.
Have a read, ask any questions you may have and good luck :good:

Yeah my nitrates are between 40ppm -50ppm from the tap. So i was up against it from the start . :shout: Before I used my nitrate removing filter. Which get them down to 0ppm

Looks like the juwel rio 125 has cut outs for the piping of external filters, so will find a stockist and go see. Will properly remove the internal filter and fit a tetratec 1200 and a 200 watt heater.
As this appears to be the upgrade people do. So I may as well do it from the start of tank cycling.

I totally mis-read of it being a TAP water reading, my bad.

They shouldn't cause that much of an issue whilst cycling though, with certain plants possibly even being able to help whilst the process is in action.
