I have an anubias plant in the center of a piece of mopani wood. I have had it for about 6+ months. Recently it has been getting yellow spots on the leaves and some leaves dying altogether. Nitrates, Nitrites, and Ammonia are almost non existant however my water is very hard and alkaline. When this started I put in some micronutrients but at a half dose of what the directions told me.

I have 4 other live plants in the tank 1 crypticorne, 1 water lily type plant, a moss ball, and a bunch of water sprite which most of it is in the gravel but some has been left floating.

Lighting is a single PowerGlo flouresent light

Any clues or suggestions to what is causing this or how to correct it.

nitrates, nitrites and ammonia are its food. if these values are low in your tank then you need to feed your plant more ferts. Sounds like you have very little light too? What size tank is it? Can you get more light on it?

Its in my 29 gallon tank. I have anubias in another 29 gallon tank that has been doing great with the same lighting. I read somewhere that the yellowing can be due to too many nitrates(at the time before I corrected the issue the tests showed that nitates were over 20ppm) so I did water changes to fix that issue, that has been about 2-3 weeks ago without much change. I do have a minor amount of some type of hair algae on the edges of the leaves but I lightly wipe it off.

I have no snails and for a while I thought it may have been my bristle nose plecostomus causing damage but I've been keeping him well fed(he has a decent belly on him) but the spots keep appearing. Can excess nutrients be an issue? I had used a small amount of liquid fertilizer prior which made my water sprite grow pretty quickly.
